Financial Literacy Component of “She’s an Economic Powerhouse” – The Nike Foundation

Microfinance Opportunities has been tapped by The Nike Foundation to provide financial literacy training as part of the foundation’s “She’s an Economic Powerhouse” initiative promoting the development of financial products and services for adolescent girls in the developing world. The goal of the trainings is to equip girls with the financial skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to become responsible and informed consumers who can better use the financial products and services offered.

Collaborating with nongovernmental organizations and their partner microfinance institutions and community-based organizations in five countries, Microfinance Opportunities’ trainings empower others to develop their own financial literacy programs, including face-to-face trainings and the use of mass media such as radio programs and comic books. Project components have included consumer research, the design of new trainings to support girls’ savings, and the adaptation of Microfinance Opportunities’ general financial education curricula for youth.
