Microfinance Opportunities recently launched its own YouTube channel to host videos that explore key financial concepts and serve as tools for financial education.

Most of the featured videos were produced to complement the Global Financial Education Program and its curriculum package. For instance, an eight-minute “Introduction to Financial Education” video provides an overview of the program curricula and illustrates the benefits of financial education through consumer testimonials.

Consumers International demonstrates how an MFO-authored Financial Counsellor’s Handbook is making it possible for volunteers to bring financial education to their communities.

Each module in the program curriculum is accompanied by a video: Bank Services, Banking, Debt Management, Financial Negotiations, Savings, Remittances, Risk Management and Insurance, Consumer Protection and Young People. The videos outline the core content and objectives of each module and utilize footage of local actors demonstrating real-life scenarios related to each topic. This footage was shot in Columbia, Kenya, the Philippines and Uganda, and has also been packaged as a separate “Life Stories” series.

Produced by the Citi Foundation and Kwamba Productions, these videos are also available on DVD.
